Overview

The Datacenter Engineering Lead is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the on-premises data center infrastructure. The role involves ensuring the optimal performance, security, and reliability of data center operations. The engineer will work closely with IT teams, network administrators, and other stakeholders to manage and optimize data center environments.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and Implementation: Develop and implement data center strategies, including the architecture, network configurations, and hardware installations. Ensure that the design meets the company's requirements for scalability, performance, and security.
  • Maintenance and Support: Oversee the daily operations of the data center, including monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and performing regular maintenance. Ensure that all systems are running efficiently and are up-to-date with the latest patches and upgrades.
  • Security Management: Implement and maintain security protocols to protect the data center from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and other vulnerabilities. Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential threats.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in the event of a data center failure. This includes regular testing and updating of the recovery procedures.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor and analyze data center capacity to ensure that resources are used efficiently and can accommodate future growth. Implement strategies to optimize resource allocation and minimize costs.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data center configurations, procedures, and policies. This includes creating diagrams, manuals, and reports to support the ongoing operations and maintenance of the data center.
  • Vendor Management: Work with hardware and software vendors to procure necessary equipment and services. Manage vendor relationships to ensure that the data center infrastructure is supported and maintained effectively.
  • Compliance: Ensure that the data center operations comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Stay updated on the latest developments in data center technologies and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications in data center management, networking, or security are highly desirable.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations, network administration, or a related field. Proven experience in managing data center environments is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data center infrastructure technologies including VMWare and Commvault technologies, as well as Windows/Linux servers, storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud computing. Strong knowledge of network protocols, security principles, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Experience in creating and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including IT, network administrators, and executive leadership. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work outside of regular business hours, including weekends and holidays, to support data center operations and maintenance activities.
